At midsummer 1907 the family was thankfully able to leave what de la Mare could now admit was 'the horrible little flat' in Samos Road for a home not a great deal bigger, but much more pleasant in Worbeck Road, Anerley, a few streets off.

That there looks like shrubbery to me - which suggests a road inhabited by 'professional' folk - bank managers, solicitors, and now booksellers claiming their rightful status. You'll be getting asked to countersign people's passport photos next.

Absolutely nothing to do with anything, Jonathan, and sorry for butting in, but I just wanted to say that (just in time for the Christmas rush) I have given the shop a huge amount of free publicity on my blog, www.yourlifeisanimpossiblity.blogspot.com (you have to look pretty hard, but there it is in the 9th (9th!) paragraph of entry 23/10/09.
