This is lovely. Undoubtedly the work of a bunch of middle-aged men, including Roger Deakin, Bill Drummond and Chris Yates, standing at the water's edge scratching their balls, but lovely all the same.

On Saturday we sold books on the bank of a river.

There was a burst water main on Westow Street. So we built a boat, set sail and made a film. As you do.

The song is Down in the Effra, a hymn to the river Effra by Upper Norwood's finest The Effras.

I was told yesterday that one of our most cherished customers died last week. The last two books that he ordered from me were My Father's Tears by John Updike and Ooga-Booga by Frederick Seidel. It's a fitting alphabetical accident that places them next to Badger's Parting Gifts a book that helps to explain death to small children. It would have made him smile.
